Red Hill Valley Cultural Mapping and Interpretive Signage Initiative
Supervisor: Meagan Kakwiráyentha Hamilton
Community Partner: Haudenosaunee Development Institute (HDI) & Joint Stewardship Board (JSB)
This project contributes to the Red Hill Valley Cultural Mapping and Interpretive Signage Initiative, a collaboration between the Haudenosaunee Development Institute (HDI) and the Joint Stewardship Board (JSB)—a partnership between the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council and the City of Hamilton.
The initiative shares Haudenosaunee knowledge, cultural teachings, and ecological relationships connected to the Red Hill Valley landscape. Through interpretive trail signage, cultural mapping, and public engagement, the project seeks to strengthen understanding of Haudenosaunee stewardship and environmental restoration work in the valley.
The internship will support three areas of work:
Development of interpretive trail signage highlighting Haudenosaunee culture, language, and environmental teachings
Coordination of digital cultural mapping materials documenting stories, ecological features, and place-based knowledge
Community outreach and engagement events that strengthen education and public awareness
The project advances shared stewardship and reconciliation through collaborative environmental governance and climate education.
